Drs. Jerome and Tom Liu discuss the popularity of breast augmentation and the many benefits of the procedure.

San Jose, CA – Dr. Jerome H. Liu and Dr. Tom S. Liu view the consistent increase in popularity of breast augmentation as evidence of continued patient satisfaction with the results of the procedure. At their San Jose plastic surgery practice, Drs. Jerome and Tom Liu say one of their main goals is to help prospective breast augmentation patients make informed decisions about the surgery and deliver the personal and aesthetic benefits the procedure can yield.
The plastic surgeons say, when a woman increases her breast size, she can often gain a more youthful appearance. In addition, breast enlargement can improve the overall proportion/balance of a woman’s figure, as well as provide a more contoured, sensual look to the breasts. However, the surgeons say breast augmentation can not only dramatically change a woman’s appearance but also significantly impact and improve self-esteem.
As noted in a recent blog post on Liu Plastic Surgery’s website titled: “Benefits Of Breast Surgery: More Than Cosmetic,” many of the doctors’ breast augmentation patients are women who have lost some volume in their breasts due to pregnancy or breast-feeding. Some of these women have experienced decreased levels of confidence and a lower self-image and seek to restore the breasts to their original size and shape. At the same time, other patients consider the procedure because of simple dissatisfaction with the size of their breasts, or the desire to achieve fuller, more youthful breast contours.
Drs. Jerome and Tom Liu say they help patients navigate the decision of which type of implant is best for their individual aesthetic goals. There are three major types of breast implants: saline, silicone, and form-stable gel implants. Saline implants have a silicone shell and are filled with a saline (salt water) solution during the procedure, allowing for final adjustments to be made throughout the course of the operation. The doctors say silicone gel implants are made of a cohesive gel and tend to have a more natural feel. Form-stable implants (sometimes referred to as gummy bear implants) are relatively new types of implants that are known for their ability to hold their form and shape while exhibiting a very natural look and feel.
According to Drs. Jerome and Tom Liu, breast augmentation procedures typically take 60 minutes to perform and recovery is relatively rapid. Though patients will experience some soreness afterward, they say this typically dissipates in a few days. Drs. Jerome and Tom Liu follow up with their patients throughout the recovery period and most patients feel relatively back to normal after 5-7 days.
Overall, the doctors say breast augmentation can have both cosmetic and emotional benefits, helping patients add volume to the breasts and feel more confident about the way they look.
